January 19th, 1861: Georgia secedes from the Union (US Civil War)


January 20th, 1981: Ronald Reagan is inaugurated as the 40th President of the United States. Also, the US diplomats and citizens held hostage at the US embassy in Tehran are released and begin their journey home after 444 days.
